Precision Teaching

Succulent

WHAT IS IT?

Precision Teaching is a measurement system that utilizes the standard celeration chart (SCC) to teach a subject to fluency. Precision teachers rely on practice over instruction, data taking and multiple timed learning opportunities to achieve outcomes. Our goal is fluency- a combination of accuracy and speed.

"For example, two children might score equally on an exercise using a percentage correct measurement system, but one of them

might have taken thirty minutes to complete the exercise and the other only five; it could be said that the latter child is more accomplished; however, when using percentage correct we cannot distinguish between levels of mastery beyond 100% accuracy. Despite this limitation percentage correct remains the prevailing unit of measurement in most educational settings."(Hughes et. al., 2007)

"Results indicated a considerable difference between the baseline and intervention phase of the participants and they also indicated that the training resulted in considerable improvement in the three variables of word reading fluency, text reading fluency, and comprehension. Precision Teaching Training improve the performance of participants in reading fluently and comprehension. In addition, follow up data indicated that the effects of the intervention procedures were stable across time."
